Card Folio Tutorial

I have wanted to have a go at making a video tutorial for quite a while.  Today I gave it a go.  We have a school cluster wide 'Movie Making' competition this year so I need to use the skills I want the kids to learn.  Killing two birds with one stone.   The project is one I worked on about 3 years ago, and one I have repeated a few times since. 
 I decided I was a bit mad for deciding to do it but I charged up the flip video, got out my gorilla pod thingy for it (as I write this I wonder why I didn't use the big tripod - I wouldn't have needed to put the chair on the table...oh well, maybe next time - if there is a next time!).  I said 'umm' way too many times and not sure I like hearing my own voice.  Here goes if you are interested...

Card Folio


I have put together a little project for those of you who want something quick & easy to do – it could be the perfect gift for a birthday, mothers day, teachers gift, to say thank you, or maybe something nice for yourself...

 My materials were purchased from Scrapbook Outlet and my Stampin Up demonstrator. Here's a link to the beautiful 'Authentique' paper I used.

You will need:
  • a 12 x 12 inch piece of heavy double sided patterned paper that you like
  • 3 x A4 Sheets of card suitable for making into 6 note cards
  • 6 x C6 envelopes
  • approximately 50cm of ribbon that co-ordinates with your patterned paper
  • a collection of small patterned paper scraps
  • basic tools e.g. adhesive such as double sided tape or white glue, black ink pad, scissors, a paper trimmer and a ruler (you could use the measurements on your trimmer)
  • sentiments stamps (happy birthday, get well, thank you...)

Lara, I loved them. Awesome effort and to be honest I didn't notice the um's, thats because I was absorbed in what you were doing. I was wondering what we could get Mike's mum for mothers day and I am going to make the card folio. I know she will use it and will appreciate it because it is handmade. I like the strip that you put down the side and it made me think of some uses for the edges of paper I have. I love that this only takes less then 10 mins and is gorgeous and practical. Thanks for the inspiration. I will post photos of my effort on my blog.

That was great! A pretty project ... and so well explained ... think I might need to make one or two myself ... only, I know I over complicate these things and make the cards too elaborate and then it takes ages ... and it's not necessary ...

Purging

The stuff can take over.  My stuff was covering my work surface and much of the bedroom floor.  I had to do a big sort out. I was brutal.   Stuff...ready to go. I packaged it in some storage totes I had that needed a new home (I’m waiting for my new CTMH travel system to arrive) and listed it on s local trading site.  It’s gone now. It doesn’t look pretty but I have a desk space and things are organised. The rest of my supplies now fit in this cupboard. Since the ‘purge’ I have had the space to create.  It feels good and it’s great to be able to get to my desk. A few pages made since the tidy up...and a box of 20 cards!

Cheese Rolls

Spread sliced bread with Cheese Spread (see below). Roll up. Toast in oven & serve hot. These may be frozen and heated when required! cheese spread: 1pkt onion soup; 500g tasty cheese - grated; a 400g tin of evaporated milk; Put all ingredients in a saucepan and heat slowly until cheese melts and mixture thickens. Stir well. When cool store in jars in the fridge for sandwhiches etc or put in your cheese rolls! Yep, the Up2Scrap Elite Design team has been announced - soo privileged & excited to be a part of it. Congrats to Donna , Rach , Lianne , Trina & Sue & thanks Steph & Jo for the opportunity:-) We have been in Invercargill overnight - nice to get away even if it is only for a night! We went to Queens Park & the Museum/Art Gallery today & the Art Gallery Cafe served these cheese rolls -yum! Such a lower South Island thing - but soo good!

a catch up

Spent last night in Invers. We had a family dinner for dh's Nanny. We did a brief shop @ Farmers (none in the Wakatip) & went to Splash Palace this morning & BK for lunch (there's no BK here either!). Here are my 21 Challenge pages for the last three days. The hardest one was the Eleanor Roosevelt quote as I'm not sure what scares me - other than a lingering death while my children are still young, or one of them or dh being harmed in some way but even then I have a faith that gives me hope & assurance of a future. So I decided to apply this to my art or my creating - to try something new each day - even if it scares me. Day 4's quote was a goodie - I find that I make decisions all the time & this confirms that I am 'qualified' to make them. I used the pic of Katya for Day 6 as her blowing dandilion heads across the play area indicates this freedom & exploration of the world around. Watching her reminds me of the beauty & wonder al...
