meet me at mikes

Was reading a copy of inside out...and saw this book, it immediately appealed to me...and had to check out Pip's blog: meet me at mikes . love it. Want the book. and from here I found brown owls ... love the concepts of this craft group....kind of like brownies or any such thing that gives out badges for achieving certain things....wonder if I can find enough people locally keen to do something like this?

FunFair

These are such a fun idea! Check out FunFair for a few others. Totally upcycling!

FUN

the more I think about it...the more I really like paraFUNalia for a name. might add 'made by lara' in there too... Raewyn can you flick me your snail mail addy so I can get a RAK off to you:-) I'll also do a random draw from the other suggestions either later this week or in the weekend for another RAK. Yay, get to play with Logo ideas now. FUN. DH's broken leg...remains unusable...not allowed to weightbear...but can now bend it to right angles and he gets to start physio...med cert for another 8 weeks, I was hoping he'd be allowed to drive. No such luck. Keep Smiling.

sassa cards

Made these at Scrap Camp in Dunedin...had fun with the sassafrass.

Hmmmm

please note...this is a toy gun, no real weapons were used in this photo :-) Not sure what to do with him! He said he was just going to ride his bike ...this was after an early dinner (they were hungry after swimming lessons) Barbara rang to say Ethan was there so we werem t tp worry about him. He'd ridden Katya's bike around the Estate to visit Barbara. It was her birthday today. He went to bed as soon as he arrived home. On a more fun note....I'm looking forward to a wee package from Random Kits & Pieces after an email from Niella...watch this space! & check out the new precious pages by Vicky & Trina! I have a couple more in the pipeline...just waiting on some finishing touches for them :-) & apparently there's to be something for National Scrapbooking Day at Scrapbook Outlet this weekend, so check the forum :-) &...Both Up2Scrap & Scrapbooking Innovation will be out soon, two NZ mags in one month. Yay! Smiles.

The End of the School Holidays

We spend the last week at Granny & Pa's place at Taieri Beach. Nice to be away. Nice to be away from the internet. Nice to be somewhere else. Nice. Mum took us on the 'Seasider' train. It goes from Dunedin to Palmerston and back again. With Jases broken leg we got into one of the best carriages- it had a lift thing to get him on & off the train. the kids loved the tunnels (so did I) and on the way back I stayed out of the carriage - we were in the end one on the return journey so I had fun with the camera. And coming home...these leaves near Cromwell were beautiful, the Poplars were all changing colour and there were some on the ground just waiting to be played in. My three happily obliged. If you have read this far...well done :-) I have RAK....but to get it... I want your ideas of what to call my stuff in the previous post....want a name that doesn't have 'scrap' in it and that isn't too girly but kind of says what stuff I sell - notebooks, ...

Market Day

Sadly Lynley couldn't join me today as her dad is unwell :-( Was up rather early this morning (i.e. didn't get to bed till when some people are getting up on dairy farms) getting everything completed, packaged, priced etc for today and the organisation paid off as setting up was easy and had lots of sales :-) These photos are courtesy of Miss 8 who helped me set up this morning. Jase helped with the prep too and put these flowers together (as instructed). Off to make dinner, need sleep.

Scrap Camp Dunedin

Saturday lunch in the sun on the steps. stunning. Thanks for a fabulous weekend Carol & Naomi. Thanks for sitting beside me Naomi & Andrea. Thanks for being the bestest roomie again Nik. Andrea - well done on achieving 10...even if I am a hard task master (will Leith let you come again since you did some creating this time?) Naomi - keep your photos to yourself and leave mine alone. Sorry about the Sassa Andrea....was just too gorgeous Julie B - loved watching you work and being inspired by your pages since you sat in front of me :-) Janine & Beverley - was great to see you both again and all the way from Welly too. I loved the weekend so much...am trying to put something casually creative tegether to tie in with the opening of Winterfest in Queenstown at the end of June - check out the blog for info . 25 pages, 2 cards, great conversations, minimal sleep, cold shower, hot shower, company, a shop, brilliant. oh, and Precious Page Kits have our first kits for sale...check t...

up to something

Took this picture a couple of weeks ago when Agato took us up to Mace Town. The kids & I went over this swing bridge on the way back down. Ethan loved going through the river in the truck. I was pleased to finally get there as have never been before. the Ezine is out A few of us have been up to something. Check out Precious Pages . We have been planning this since SENZ last year and are pleased it's finally all go!

CT Scan of break

to show the breakage....they had to pin the bone back together...and the fragments that had come off also...to get a context, the kind of trapezoid bone on the right hand centre of the pic is the patella (knee).

Jase Jumping

not base jumping! The result of falling 8 - 9 metres from a flying marquee, mary poppins style is a dislocated knee and a femoral condial fracture...rather messy and painful. Almost as painful was the three day wait for acute surgery and the Nil By Mouth each of those days until dinner time...how is a man meant to heal with no nutrition (what he got to eat when he did wasn't really nutritional either), sharing a 4 bedder room and only being allowed visitors between 2 & 8 pm...even one of the other patients had difficulty getting back into the ward with the receptionist telling her off for being in outside visiting hours...till the patient told her she was an 'inmate' and flashed her id bracelet! Really appreciative of the support we received from my mum who looked after the kids (met us in Invervegas when I got there in my car - Jase was in the ambulance), from Leith and Andrea who gave me a bed to sleep on each night, Barbara for feeding the cat and hens and the W...

the best chocolate ever

Melts in your mouth, soft centre, perfect & the pieces come as pieces - you don't even have to break them off.

Another year older

Last week I got older :-) Sally got a photo of me which was good...don't have that many of me :-) Sally asked how many candles I wanted...I suggested 3 - one for each of the kids to blow out, three to represent the number of 10's and the number of 1's in my new age. Busy with work, new roles, new experiences, scary but good. Enjoying swimming (a good thing I start work 11:30am...not many people at the pool 10amish). Have some yummy cosmo cricket and fancy pants scrap goodies to play with...hanging out for a creative evening, think I'll do some creating with Lynley tomorrow night...full on day tomorrow, will be a good chill out time! Lynley & I are doing a stand at the Arrowtown Autumn Festival Market Day on April 18th so have some creating to do in preparation!

digital scrapbooking

I have been asked by a couple of friends via facebook about digital scrapbooking...what it is, how to and some sites etc. I thought I'd put a post here about it and send them here (just click on the purple coloured words and you'll head to the site I'm talking about). Essentially digital scrapbooking is using digital 'elements' to create scrapbook pages all on your computer, they can be saved as jpegs and printed on your home printer or through a photo developer, or you can just save them to a disc & can share them easily via email, flickr or even facebook! OK, design software, I use gimp because it's free! You can download trials of photoshop , photoshop elements and Creative Suite if you think you might like to purchase some slightly more user friendly software...There are other software options, but photoshop seems to be a main one. Edited to add: Quick pages.... basically the page is made for you and you just put your photo into it....check out this...

playtime

for me :-) kids have been happily playing with 'paint' on the computer..drawing ballet scenes...so I've had a chance to create. I have had some 3 bugs papers from Scrapbook Outlet to play with and they worked well with many of my summer photos...I have put more layouts in the SBO gallery if you are interested. Playing Games is a fave though because I was able to use some vintage game pieces, lace and a page from a games book as well as some other bits I've had in my stash for a while. I loved this 3 bugs paper because it fitted with the kind of 'retro-ness' of the game 'squatter' which we were playing in the photo. Now ...the 3 bugs paper probably seems too pretty for such a subject...but I chose it because of the 'delicate' nature of my daughters tummy! had fun using some of the MR Campy Cosmo Cricket stuff here too. NZ Dares is back...what did you learn in 2008? would love to see you do a layout on it & upload for the dares!

Happy Birthday Katya

Miss Katya turned 7 on Thursday...casual day with overnight visit from Granny, Aunty Anna, Hunter & Isla! Had some of the new 3 bugs papers to play with from Scrapbook Outlet ...and a 'seasons' card for the slice which Andrea sent until mine arrives (it's one that people who buy the slice from VIP stores like Scrapbook Outlet get to send away for)...and 250 ish photos from snapfish. Enjoyed using the 3 bugs papers , good colours, nice thick papers and enjoyed the simplicity and minimal space used by the slice for cutting out titles and some die cuts. Loving the use of dimension dots/squares to lift some of the cuts off the page a little. yep, I got in too...remember that this is a lower South Island beach, so not the warmest, but the day was sooo hot it was almost a necessity. Girls enjoyed us getting in...a little too cold for Ethan still!

a little more beach...

we had up to 4 different Kereru flying over or settling on the treas around the beach huts, often as it was getting darker so the photo's weren't so good, this one shows some of their gorgeous colouring. was a full moon...the pic here isn't as clear as the high res one...kind of spooky with the leaves shadowing the moon... I think this is a molly hawk chick? need to check that out, but they were scuttling around the track on Moturata island...saw some blue penguins and their chicks while there too, not ok to get too close so don't have great shots of them unfortunately. at Moturata island there were some stunning crabs tucked under the rocks...you can only get to the island at low tide and you have up till an hour after the low tide mark to get back to Taieri Mouth or you have to swim! We went over twice, got some paua the first time and just explored the second.
