digital scrapbooking

I have been asked by a couple of friends via facebook about digital scrapbooking...what it is, how to and some sites etc. I thought I'd put a post here about it and send them here (just click on the purple coloured words and you'll head to the site I'm talking about).

Essentially digital scrapbooking is using digital 'elements' to create scrapbook pages all on your computer, they can be saved as jpegs and printed on your home printer or through a photo developer, or you can just save them to a disc & can share them easily via email, flickr or even facebook!

OK, design software, I use gimp because it's free! You can download trials of photoshop, photoshop elements and Creative Suite if you think you might like to purchase some slightly more user friendly software...There are other software options, but photoshop seems to be a main one.

Edited to add: Quick pages.... basically the page is made for you and you just put your photo into it....check out this one by Lainie in the Scrapbook Outlet gallery. You may find some free quick pages in a google search or in the links below :-)
Lainie has used Raspberry Road Designs (the link will take you to the freebies page). There are a few QP kits (short for Quick Page) there!

Once you have that you need to get a basic tutorial and some 'resources' to play with.

gimp tutorial - great tutorial but I don't like the halloween subject at all! this tutorial has some other links on which tell you about the different tools of gimp and how to use them etc.

To create your pages you need some papers and elements etc...
google 'digital kit free' and you get quite a few freebie things to start with...good to playwith before spending any money! But I'll link a few that you can check out:

And when you think about buying some kits...
We are story tellers and Eidou and two peas are some of my fave places!

Once you have played with the layers etc a little...you can get tutorials for adding shadows (so the papers, titles and embellishments have some depth) and other things...but save that till you have the basic idea!

Hope that helps a little.....feel free to ask me a specific question, which i will TRY to answer but am still new to this kind of creativity too :-)

Excellent post Lara - Im thinking about downloading Gimp as my PSE2 doesnt seem to have some functions in tutorials :o( do you find the tutorials for PSE work well for Gimp? Are they easy to follow?

Purging

The stuff can take over.  My stuff was covering my work surface and much of the bedroom floor.  I had to do a big sort out. I was brutal.   Stuff...ready to go. I packaged it in some storage totes I had that needed a new home (I’m waiting for my new CTMH travel system to arrive) and listed it on s local trading site.  It’s gone now. It doesn’t look pretty but I have a desk space and things are organised. The rest of my supplies now fit in this cupboard. Since the ‘purge’ I have had the space to create.  It feels good and it’s great to be able to get to my desk. A few pages made since the tidy up...and a box of 20 cards!

Cheese Rolls

Spread sliced bread with Cheese Spread (see below). Roll up. Toast in oven & serve hot. These may be frozen and heated when required! cheese spread: 1pkt onion soup; 500g tasty cheese - grated; a 400g tin of evaporated milk; Put all ingredients in a saucepan and heat slowly until cheese melts and mixture thickens. Stir well. When cool store in jars in the fridge for sandwhiches etc or put in your cheese rolls! Yep, the Up2Scrap Elite Design team has been announced - soo privileged & excited to be a part of it. Congrats to Donna , Rach , Lianne , Trina & Sue & thanks Steph & Jo for the opportunity:-) We have been in Invercargill overnight - nice to get away even if it is only for a night! We went to Queens Park & the Museum/Art Gallery today & the Art Gallery Cafe served these cheese rolls -yum! Such a lower South Island thing - but soo good!

a catch up

Spent last night in Invers. We had a family dinner for dh's Nanny. We did a brief shop @ Farmers (none in the Wakatip) & went to Splash Palace this morning & BK for lunch (there's no BK here either!). Here are my 21 Challenge pages for the last three days. The hardest one was the Eleanor Roosevelt quote as I'm not sure what scares me - other than a lingering death while my children are still young, or one of them or dh being harmed in some way but even then I have a faith that gives me hope & assurance of a future. So I decided to apply this to my art or my creating - to try something new each day - even if it scares me. Day 4's quote was a goodie - I find that I make decisions all the time & this confirms that I am 'qualified' to make them. I used the pic of Katya for Day 6 as her blowing dandilion heads across the play area indicates this freedom & exploration of the world around. Watching her reminds me of the beauty & wonder al...
